Planters Bank and Trust Company opened its doors for business in 1920 in
Ruleville, Mississippi. In July 1920, the bank had total assets of
$268,000. As of June 2004, that figure had grown to $422,000,000. The
bank is now headquartered in Indianola, Mississippi.
The bank began to expand into a "system" of banks serving the central
Mississippi Delta region when it opened a branch bank in Indianola in
1940. In 1941, a branch office was opened in Sunflower, and in 1951, a
branch was opened in Louise. The bank expanded to Greenville in 1970 and
purchased the Inverness branch from Deposit Guaranty National Bank in
1986. Recently, the bank has opened offices in Cleveland (1997),
Greenwood (1999), and Leland (1999). The bank now has a total of
fourteen full service offices in nine Delta communities.
A one-bank holding company, "Planters Holding Company," was formed in
early 1981. Planters Holding Company now owns 100% of the common stock
of Planters Bank and Trust Company. Planters Holding Company operates at
the same address as the bank office in Indianola.
The bank has had seven presidents preceding the current President, James
B. Randall, III. They were S. S. Harris, J. T. Thomas, O. H. Levingston,
Herman Moore, Sr., Ted Borodofsky, Henry Paris, and James H. Clayton. In
January of 2003, James H. Clayton was named Chairman of the Board and
Chief Executive Officer and James B. Randall, III was named President
and Chief Operating Officer. They continue to serve in these positions.
Planters Bank and Trust Company has always played a responsible role in
the economic growth of this region, and we fully expect to continue in
that role. The bank looks forward to the future with positive
expectations and will continue to strive for excellence in all areas of
financial service.
